Some transfer updates

Post by cooldmc88 on Fri Aug 01, 2008 11:05 pm

Well, it's already the month of August. The transfer window is at it's
halfway mark. Throughout the month of July we have witnessed quite a
number of high-profile transfers. Top clubs in the EPL such as Chelsea,
Arsenal and especially Liverpool have been active in the transfer
market. Manchester United however, are still remaining silent, probably
because they are too involved in the hottest summer news, which is
their main player, Cristiano Ronaldo's constant uncertainty over his
future at the club.

Arsenal, who mounted a strong challenge for the title at first half of
last season, but depressingly crashed out of the race later on, felt it
was necessary to add more talents to their promising young squad. They
have already brought in Samir Nasri, teenager Aaron Ramsey, and most
recently Amaury Bischoff, who is currently still struggling with
fitness, but should feature within the next two months. Arsenal have
lost 4 players so far this summer, Mathieu Flamini and Jens Lehmann
through free transfers, whereas Gilberto Silva and Alexander Hleb left
with undisclosed fees. Star striker Emmanuel Adebayor's future is also
uncertain, with a few clubs known to express their interest, while the
player himself has not done much to dispel those suggestions, demanding
a higher wages contract in the process.

Chelsea, under the ex-Portugal's decorated manager Luiz Felipe
Scolari's new regime, has so far brought in two new players. They are
Jose Bosingwa and Deco. Chelsea are thought to be keen on bringing in
Real Madrid's forward Robinho, and they have numerously expressed their
interest in the talented Brazilian national. They have also been
offloading some fringe players such as Tal Ben Haim, Steve Sidwell and
Khalid Boulahrouz.

Liverpool are highly active in this summer's transfer activities. We
have witnessed the departures of stars such as Peter Crouch, John Arne
Riise, and Harry Kewell. They have brought in defenders Phillip Degen
and Andrea Dossena, youngster David Ngog, and most recently, Robbie
Keane from Tottenham. Keane, who has been a lifelong fan of Liverpool,
expressed his utmost joy of being able to seize the opportunity to play
for the club of his dreams. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez feels the
club needs to mount a serious challenge for the title in the upcoming
season.

Manchester United are still struggling to keep hold of their star
winger Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese international has constantly
been courted publicly by Real Madrid, who has insisted that they are
only focusing on him as their transfer target this summer. The promise
of huge salary seems to have tempted the young lad's intentions. He
will meet with manager Sir Alex Ferguson and issue a statement,
insisting a move to Real Madrid will be the ideal solution for him.

Well, that's all for now. More transfer updates to come soon!
