alot of ppl thinking that vista is not compatible wf alot of software..
eg.. our study use software... some of them the available installer are still in old version which cant run in vista.. vista is clever but not clever enuf till some of the software cant really work wf it..
i m the vista user, so far i haven face any prob..
but i knew later when i need to install the software later i may face the same prob.. i think..
but i think the software they ll release the new version of the software...
jz try the not so old version of the software it ll b help in compability of the vista n the software

Re: good or not... ermmm...
Vista is a menace.
You'll have a lot of problems using it. Not now, maybe later.
File transfer is so slow. and manual virus removal very hard.
Be aware that vista eats up a lot of RAM due to its unstability. you need at least 1 G of RAM. But you need more to actually using the GUI to its full potential.
You realise there's a lot of background activity in Vista. Vista is good for game tho for the directX.
My FIT lecturer even downgraded his Vista-compatible laptop to XP...but he use Linux primarily. Few of my Vista using frens rollback to XP also. Me? i'll wait for another year or two till Vista is actually stable and cheaper. It's too expensive for an unfinished product.
If you really want the cool effects on your comp with less RAM usage and high stability, i recommend Linux Fedora. It's stunning. and free some more.

vista is not tat bad, due to the graphics, it really needs more RAM... XP already faced out .. n if u wait for few year tat time u wont use the vista any longer... u ll sure choose the windows 7.. it's cuming soon... ppl downgraded their vista mayb is due to their hardware are not strong enuf to support the windows vista..

Re: good or not... ermmm...
Well, if you're using Vista Home Premium or Home Basic, yes-XP pro would be batter as you're gonna face some incompatibilities...
So if u reli wanna use Vista, then go for AT LEAST Vista business or ultimate. :)
If ur facing software incompatibilities of software installation problem, i bet u must be using one of either home premium or home basic edition.
If ur software wouldn't run because it's an older version, don't blame Vista-go get a later version online. I can assure that most of the software nowadays are compatible with vista. For freewares, u can always tryout filehippo.com. ;)
Virus vulnerabilities? Nah.. cut off the craps, why don't u tell me that xp is vulnerable to viruses that vista aren't vulnerable of? It's all in the way u handle it!
It is undeniable that Vista needs atleast 1GB of ram for it to work fine, but one good thing about vista is its enhanced security (although some might find it troublesome to approve permissions all the time)...
Dear baby Tsukasa, lots of files maybe running, but u can always disable those u don't need in task manager oe even msconfig. +_+
Btw, those who downgraded from Vista to XP out thr, would u mind share if ur downgrading due to reasons other than these?
-Adaptability
-Software incomapatibiliy (Home basic@ premium)
-Driver prob (Search for vista drivers online!)
-Slow performance (Insufficient ram: <=512mb)
Have a nice day?

Re: good or not... ermmm...
The only reason i downgraded my windows to xp coz of software incompatibility. I dont like that if I cant run my important application under vista. So far, I got 2 problem with it. Hopefully sumday i can overcome this type of problem myself.

Windows Vista is not all that bad. Softwares developers are slowly developing softwares which can be supported on Windows Vista. Since the launch of the service pack 1 of Windows Vista, this operating system had become more stable. It has its pros and cons.

Dear Karoshi, it depends on the laptop model ur gonna buy.. whether it supports Vista.. If u've got d driver and at least 1DB of ram, then go for Vista.. :)
As for you, lightning_siput, why fake Vista when u can get it for real? If u'd prefer Xp, then go for Xp's ori features, c'mon..

Re: good or not... ermmm...
For people whose laptop can't support vista, they can apply vista transformation pack, its worth. I used it b4 for my 1st lappy. And it works great.
If your lappy have dedicated graphic, it will be much better. You get better and faster booting time. That's one of my experience. Cheer's

No point in upgrading RAM to 4G. Try upgrade graphic card.
Vista, just get ultimate!

Well, I use Vista Ultimate for 3 semester already. Recently, I already upgrade to Vista Ultimate SP1 OEM version. Nice to use but eat a lot of Ram and HDD space. Luckily I use Double Hyper 1GB Ram.
